AC Cobra Replica Full Body Restoration

This 1980s AC Cobra replica, originally from California, came to us for a full-body repaint and extensive restoration work. The car presented several challenges, including misaligned doors, poorly executed door gaps, and visible fractures in the fiberglass. Additionally, the stripes were uneven, detracting from the car's iconic look.
Restoration Process
Door Adjustments:
We meticulously adjusted the doors and corrected the gaps for a perfect fit.
Fiberglass Repairs:
Delaminated and repaired fractures in the fiberglass, ensuring a smooth, durable finish.
Stripes Rework:
Reapplied the stripes with precision to ensure perfect alignment.
Body Preparation:
To achieve a flawless base, we blocked the entire body using heavy grit. This crucial process straightened the panels, removing imperfections and creating a smooth surface for paint application.
Full Body Respray
Our respray process involved meticulous layering to ensure a premium finish:
Surface Sealing:
After the bodywork, we applied a high-build primer to seal the surface and enhance adhesion.
Sanding & Refining:
The primer was sanded to perfection, ensuring an even foundation.
Base Coat Application:
A rich, deep base coat was applied evenly across the vehicle, highlighting the Cobra's curves and timeless design.
Striping Precision:
Using advanced techniques, the stripes were masked and reapplied with absolute precision for a perfect alignment.
Clear Coat Finish:
Multiple layers of high-gloss clear coat were added to protect the paintwork and provide a stunning, glass-like shine.
Final Result
The transformation is remarkable, taking the car from its outdated, faded red-and-white paint job to a refreshed, striking finish. The new paintwork complements its 330hp engine, restoring this Cobra replica’s status as a true head-turner.
